She gave me hope for Pakistan. Now I have none.
She also sounded great on the radio when Liane Hansen or Neil Conan would just call her up to see how things were going. She was a realist and a clear leader.Lorihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11342965653157153772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2153888337668314458.post-36377334112278713072008-01-02T22:44:00.000-06:002008-01-02T22:44:00.000-06:00Part of the reason the US is giving Pakistan tons ...Part of the reason the US is giving Pakistan tons of money is to ensure two things: 1, to make Musharraf look even more incompetent as a leader because he is and 2, to promote a more stable (har, right) environment in which opposition forces led by Nawaz Sharif and now Bhutto's widower and eldest son will be able to get a foothold because they promote a democratic agenda.

I'm not a big fan of democracy by extortion, but in this case, $10 million can help to buy a modicum of stability--remember, Bhutto's followers rioted as well. If the US places their bets on the opposition, and supports them, they may be in a good position after the elections. Many of the poor and destitute supported Bhutto's party, the PPP. A consolidation among opposition forces may actually turn the election to the US's favor.

--TijaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
